BRING YOUR HERBAL MEDICINE FOR TRIAL----NAFDAC TO PROF IWU

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye on Wednesday called on the claimants of herbal drugs that can cure novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease including Professor Maurice Iwu to submit their products to the agency for clinical trials.



Prof. Adeyeye who made this appeal in Abuja today (Wednesday) urged persons who have developed medicines from the local herbs for the treatment of Covid-19 patients to bring the products to NAFDAC for clinical trials.



She stated that NAFDAC is ready to subject their discoveries to clinical trials as required by law and in accordance to the international best practices, adding that the door is wide open for researchers and scientists who claim to have developed herbal products for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.



Prof. Adeyeye’s invitation follows the arguments of Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire who has also advised herbal medicine practitioners to subject their products to scientific proof.



Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 pandemic and Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha has equally asked Nigerian scientists and researchers to come up with their discoveries for cure of Covid-19 disease.



But Professor of Pharmacognosy and Researcher, Iwu has told anybody who cares to listen that he has for the past five years developed and produced herbal products which have been used to treat Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) which is actually the same as Covid-19.



Prof Iwu, a United States- trained Scientist and Researcher claimed that his products will cure Covid-19 even as he has called on the authorities to fast-track the clinical trials so that the products could be used to save thousands of people’s lives.
