COVID 19- Abia Governor Test Positive, Hand over to Deputy Governor

The Governor of Abia state Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has tested positive to the dreaded Corona virus.  Consequent on this , Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has gone into self isolation in an undisclosed isolation center while treatment kick off on him  

In a press release made available to news men by the commissioner for Information Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Abia state Government had sent out  a total of 350 samples to NCDC,out of which  67 returned positive while the rest were negative. This has brought the number of confirm Covid 19 cases in the state to 83 

This by implications means Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu is the fourth State Governor to test positive to Covid 29 in Nigeria . As contained in the press release, Chief John Okiyi Kalu revealed that earlier  "on Saturday, 30th May, 2020, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had  volunteered his sample for COVID-19 test and even directed all members of the state Executive Council (EXCO) and those of the inter ministerial committee on COVID-19 to submit themselves for the same test. "

But the result which came out on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020 revealed that Dr.  Ikpeazu’s test returned  negative. as necessity demands ,  On Thursday, 4th June, 2020, the Governor submitted another sample at the Nigeria Center For Disease Control (NCDC) laboratory for confirmation only for the  result to return positive.

This is the reason why the Governor of Abia state Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, to has gone into isolation, as required by relevant NCDC protocols, and he is being managed by a competent team of medical practitioners with a view to nursing him back to good health.  

Chief John Okiyi Kalu   Also noted that  the Governor has directed his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, to act on his behalf pending his full resumption of his official duties. 

The Government therefore urge all Abians to take the fight against COVID-19 serious as the disease is real but not a death sentence. Our state has the resources to manage patients back to good health.


In a related development too. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Abia State Bar. Onyebuchi Ememaka said the Governor is responding to treatment , infant he is in high spirit and looking forward to returning to his duty post as the Chief executive officer of God's own state

  It is necessary to put an end to the corruption at Abia State School of Nursing, particularly on the Amachara Campus. Otherwise, the schoo reputation is under threat and her certificates will amount to toilet tissues.  The entrance form is purchased from the Ministry of Health at the cost of ₦10,000 paid to UBA. Some students paid a ransom fee between ₦80,000 and ₦150,000 to the school administrators to secure admission.
