Defectors should be forced to loose their seats– Aisha Yesufu reacts as Abia lawmakers join LP

A civil rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, says the two members of the Abia State House of Assembly, who recently defected to the Labour Party should also be ready to forfeit their seats.

It will interest you to note that two Abia lawmakers who were members of the Young Progressives Party, YPP on Tuesday defected to the Labour Party.

The defectors, Mr Iheanacho Nwogu, representing Osisioma North State Constituency, and Mr Fine Ahuama, representing Osisioma South State Constituency, were received into the state’s ruling party by Governor Alex Otti.

Reacting, Aisha Yesufu, a chieftain of the Labour Party and a staunch supporter of the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, frowned at the lawmaker’s moves.

Sharing the news of the detection on her official X handle, she wrote, “Hope they are ready to also lose their seats. This nonsense where people are voted on a party ticket and then decamp to join the ruling party needs to be punished by the law.

“You should have the right to decamp, but you must forfeit the seat you won on another platform.”
