  Some women in Ewu-Urhobo kingdom in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State, have criticized Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for allegedly planning to forcefully impose on them a non-indigene as their king. The women have staged a massive protest in condemnation of what they tagged ‘forceful imposition and planned installation of one Clement Ikolo’ as their traditional ruler. The protesters vehemently insisted that Ikolo is not an indigene of Ewu-Urhobo kingdom.   Nigeria cannot continue to rely on borrowing to fund its budgets, Finance Minister Wale Edun told the Senate Committee on the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) on Thursday. Edun stated that Nigeria’s current borrowing profile is unsustainable and that the country needs to focus on increasing its domestic revenue generation. He emphasised the importance of investing in infrastructure as a means of boosting economic activity and tax collection. “Clearly, the environment that we have now, both internationally and nationally, means we are in no position to rely on borrowing,” Edun said. “We have an existing borrowing profile, and our direction is to reduce the amount of borrowing or deficit financing in the 2024 budget.” He pointed out that developed countries are currently focused on reducing inflation and stabilising their economies, which has led to higher interest rates and a tightening of credit conditions.   Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the suspension of the Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Ojo. This is despite an order of the National Industrial Court restraining the governor from removing or interfering with the judiciary. A statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Thursday, said the Governor approved the resolution of the House of Assembly asking the Chief Judge to step aside over the allegation of misconduct. “The Executive Governor of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has approved the resolution of the Osun State House of Assembly asking the Osun State Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, to step aside the pending investigation of allegations of misconduct, abuse of power, corruption, and disregard for rule of law against her by the House of Assembly,” the statement said.   Controversial cleric Anthony Kahura Mwangi alias Pastor T who raised eyebrows when he claimed that he slept with HIV-positive women and still remained HIV-negative, has offered a clarification.  Pastor T had claimed earlier that his confession was misinterpreted. He also disclosed that the incident happened while he was in a secondary school. The cleric also said that his wife is not bothered by the conversation on social media in regard to his confession as she already knew about his past.  He said; "That was a story that happened while still in high school.   An CRJ 900 Bombardier aircraft belonging to ValueJet Airline skidded off the runway at the Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers State. Details of the incident are still sketchy at the time of filing this report but it was gathered that it happened around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.   The Airline in a statement said the aircraft had stopped on the runway and executed the second turn when it encountered a slip due to algae on the taxiway. “The CRJ 900 Bombardier aircraft with registration 5N-BXR landed safely with passengers wondering what could have happened because the airplane landed safely without difficulty. In 14 days, the nation’s aviation sector has witnessed two plane accidents. On Sunday, one incident occurred when a Boeing 737 Jet with registration number 5N-BYQ belonging to Aero Contractors Airlines crashed and landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.   Property owners in Abuja should get ready to start paying taxes on their properties as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved a draft property tax regulation for the city. It was gathered that the FCT-Internal Revenue Service had commenced the implementation of Capital Gains Tax in Abuja, as stipulated in the Capital Gains Tax Act 2004. The CGT imposes a tax of 10 percent on the total amount of chargeable gains (after making allowable deductions from the computation of such gains) accruing to any person on the disposal of chargeable assets in a year of assessment. The Executive Chairman, FCT-IRS, Haruna Abdullahi, who disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, also stated that the capital city’s revenue service had been able to grow its Internally Generated Revenue to about N140bn.   Abia Government has announced a plan to start community development programmes to ensure even spread of socio-economic growth in rural areas. The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mr Okey Kanu, said this on Monday after the State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia. He said that the programmes, known as “Community Choose Your Project”, would be carried out through Abia State Community Social Development Agency (ASCSDA) “The government’s efforts to rebuild Abia will not just be focused on Aba and Umuahia. “Government is being strategic in its bid to rebuild the state and has decided to move to the hinterlands,” he said. According to him, government officials will tour various rural communities to interact with the people and get to know the kind of infrastructure they need.   Cherubim and Seraphim church leader, Baba Aladura, dies at 103 Spiritual Father and Chairman, Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide, Prophet Samuel Adefila Abidoye, is dead. The spiritual leader popularly called Baba Aladura died on Sunday morning, Nov. 12, at about 10:00 am in his Ilorin home, the Kwara state capital. He was 103 years old. The Secretariat of the church headed by the Secretary-General, Special Apostle Ademola Odetundun, confirmed the development. Special Apostle Odetundun said that the late spiritual father had his breakfast and was almost dressing up to prepare for service when he said that he wanted to rest for a while. “He passed on peacefully, thereafter”, he said, adding that burial arrangements would be announced later. It was also gathered that the remains of the spiritual leader had been taken to a mortuary in the state capital.

The National Examinations Council (NECO), has invited Onochie Chimamanda Frances, 15, of Igbinedion Education Centre for an award for emerging as the overall best female candidate national, 2020 Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE).
