According to Aljazeera, Teich resigned on Friday after a month in office amid differences with President Jair Bolsonaro over handling of the growing COVID-19 outbreak in the country. The Minister’s office disclosed on Friday that he had handed in his resignation and would hold a press conference later in the day. Brazil President Bolsonaro has been pushing in recent days for wider use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for coronavirus, a move the Minister was not in agreement with. The Minister and the President also disagreed over the sit-at-home order and also on the pace of kick-starting the economy. The minister had last week lamented that he was not consulted before the President issued a decree allowing gyms, beauty parlours and hairdressers to open for business. A three-year old child has tested positive to the novel Coronavirus in Ebonyi state becoming the eight case recorded so far in the state. Governor David Umahi stated this in a broadcast on the state’s broadcast stations after the Security/Covid-19 Committee meeting on Wednesday. According to the Governor, the child is one of the two children of the positive couple who were confirmed last week. He said the child tested positive on 11th of this month. Mr Umahi however lamented that the parents have refused to release the second child and have continued to breastfeed him in their isolation room. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye on Wednesday called on the claimants of herbal drugs that can cure novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease including Professor Maurice Iwu to submit their products to the agency for clinical trials. Prof. Adeyeye who made this appeal in Abuja today (Wednesday) urged persons who have developed medicines from the local herbs for the treatment of Covid-19 patients to bring the products to NAFDAC for clinical trials.
